If you happen to attend yoga classes, you are usually requested to give your attention to your breath. You are slowly going to a place that occurs outside our senses. Sometimes it’s hard, and sometimes it’s easy. You should know that it is a part of an essential path in the eightfold practice of yoga. This is called pratyahara, or the withdrawal of the senses. In this article, you will know as to what is the meaning of pratyahara in yoga. You will understand why it is practiced and why it is essential to follow.

What is Pratyahara ?

Pratyahara in yoga is from the Sanskrit root that is prati, which means “against” or “away” and ahara, which means “food” or “nourishment.” Therefore, the pratyahara meaning is

“withdrawing of the senses” from what it is nourishing. This withdrawal is important for practicing the eight parts of yoga. Pratyahara allows you to experience your inner self.

There is food as a factor to nourish the body and food through the senses that feed the mind. There is also food through a group of people we love that feeds the soul. We should always be vigilant of the food that we consume. If you have a malnourished body, tired mind, and emotionally stressed heart, your ability to withdraw the senses will be affected.

It would take years to develop a practice of pratyahara. It is after the earlier limbs of yoga because, before your senses are turned inwards, your mind must be cleansed and calmed by yama, pranayama, and niyama. Once the pratyahara is recognized, your mind would become calm to have a good focus and meditation. If you have already mastered the pratyahara, you will make your senses inward. It gives you expert power.

Four Forms of Pratyahara

Indriya (Control of the Senses)

This is the most critical form among the four. It is called the indriya-pratyahara, and it is the sense that dictates the mind on what to do. Human as we are, we must learn how to control and discipline the demands of our senses, and give our minds the silence it needs willingly. The best way to discipline our senses is to refrain from any sensory impressions. Rather than spending too much time on social media, spending time in connecting with nature is way better.

Prana (Control of vital energy)

Pranayama is a way of readying yourself for pratyahara. In prana-pratyahara, your senses are focused on the following prana. It is gathered and then withdrawn.

Karma (Control of actions)

The karma-pratyahara is the total control of your actions. Your desire for things and success would never be ending. The outcome of happiness is the time when your need for the physical world does not exist anymore. An example of practicing karma- pratyahara is the act to help and serve, without expecting something in return.

Mano (withdrawal of the mind)

Mano-pratyahara is the practice to withdraw the mind from the consumption of impressions. Your focus is to control your mind and your senses as well.

What is the Importance of Practicing Pratyahara

We usually receive an endless stream of information from our five senses. Little did you know, the flow of stimuli in today’s digital age is overwhelming, and it gets harder to take a moment of the sensory test. When we respond to the information of our senses, we are being carried away from inner peace.

We bring ourselves into the changing external world. The senses can instantly take over, and we end up escaping from a spontaneous reaction to the other. We ended up forgetting our goals in life.

How Can a Person Practice Pratyahara?

For you to practice pratyahara, keep in mind that anything that takes your attention away from the outside impression creates positive and peaceful inner impressions. To know more about what is the meaning of pratyahara in yoga, you must also understand how you can practice it to understand its meaning clearly.

Distance Yourself from Social Media

When you feed too much of yourself through television and social media, what do you think are the impressions? Is it worth your time, or is it useless? Distancing yourself from social media would be healthier and better. You can do it even in a few hours or every other day. This is one way of disciplining yourself from the impressions it could give you.

Move into Peace

You release physical tension during the yoga exercise, especially during asana practice. Your mind needs to be quiet and prepare for the next level of yoga. Nurture the elements of pratyahara by parting the external world behind. Just remain fully present on your mat. Be cautious of your senses and witness your reactions to them.

.

Focusing Your Mind

Your mind can only take in a certain amount of sensory input. This will let the energy flow to where your mind goes. You can use this in pratyahara, and it purposely directs your inner mind, away from external stimuli. If you have total control of your mind, your senses are controlled as well.

Keep on Practicing

To fully understand what is the meaning of pratyahara in yoga, you need to keep on practicing. Yoga is a process of discovering and developing. You can’t accomplish it overnight. It takes time and patience to learn and to master. We should instill in our minds the willingness to grow and learn. Practice and make every day’s opportunity to master and to grow.

Conclusion

It would take years to master the practice of pratyahara. But once you’ve mastered it, then it allows your mind to experience tranquil to develop meditation and focus. You will never experience an interruption or the urge to go away from the world to meditate. It will only make your senses back to you. Moreover, pratyahara is indeed a powerful way to gain self-control.

Always remember that this is the practice of training your mind and preventing you from bothering all unwanted external stimuli. Just imagine living in a place that is full of shields to prevent you from being affected by any adverse external matters: no distractions, no anxiety, no noise, or negativity, only pure peace and full of positivity. Right there, you realize what is the meaning of pratyahara in yoga.

And also gym equipment is expensive so you need to protect this expensive equipment. If you drop down gym equipment like barbells, kettlebells, and weight plates you may damage your existing floor and gym equipment.

Protective Floor Types

There are two types of materials to use a protective floor covering, these are rubber and Eva foam

Rubber Floor As Protective gym Flooring

Rubber is the common product suitable to use as flooring to protect your gym equipment and floor. There are 2 types of rubber floorings; Recycled rubber mats and virgin rubber mats. Both materials have the same physical effects.

Eva Foam Mats

Eva foam mats have similar protective effects, but these mats are softer than rubber floors. Eva mats commonly used for martial arts.

When we compare gym floor product types

Price range: the most expensive is virgin rubber.

Durability: Virgin rubber and Recycled rubber have the same durability.

Softness: Eva foam mats are softer than rubber floor coverings.

Easy application: both materials have an interlocking system which you can apply by yourself

How to Choose the Gym Flooring

When you are going to choose the floor for your gym you need to answer the 2 main questions listed below.

Is your gym in a basement or on the floor?

If you are going to make your gym on a floor than you need a tick floor.

What is the maximum weight you are going to use?

This weight is the weights of barbells, kettlebells, or weight plates. More heavyweights need more thick floor.

If you have any more questions about the choice of the gym flooring you can contact us via telephone or email. We will be happy to assist you.

The post What is The Best Protective Covering for Gym Flooring? appeared first on FlooringFitness.

Polyurethane is a widely used material in several industries like automotive, footwear, and flooring.

Polyurethane has very unique features as a floor, it is soft and strong t is strong enough to use as a commercial floor in a production unit or a warehouse.

Polyurethane is also strong and hard enough to bounce a basketball on the floor and soft enough for players not to injure themselves.

Polyurethane is used together with a rubber under layer when you are going to build a sports area. The rubber under-layer helps for softness and the polyurethane-based cushion coat and topcoat applied together in layers.

Application polyurethane flooring together with rubber base is a professional job and needs attention and takes time, for every layer you need to wait to dry for polyurethane to be hardened.

If you try to make it faster you will have air bubbles on the surface and these bubbles won’t be nice on the final surface and later on, these bubbles will start to damage the surface.

And the result is a nice smooth sports surface for indoor.

When you are going to build a new gym you plan for the gym equipment and activities and gym floor. But when it is time to choose the correct gym floor you will have doubts because there are a lot of products, product types, and thickness in the market.

Here you will have an idea of how to choose to correct floor for your home gym, commercial gym, or garage gym.

STEP1

What will be your gym activity? Functional training or maybe Crossfit or you can choose both activities.

If you are not going to have heavy exercises like Crossfit and weight lifting than you can choose a light floor that is mainly produced in roll forms. Rubber gym rolls generally available in the market from 3 mm to 12mm thickness.

Rubber rolls are ideal for functional training, TRX, and Cardio exercises and any type of general-purpose gym flooring. A higher thickness of rubber gym rolls is suitable for free weight training.

If you are going to have heavy exercises with heavyweights than the best flooring option will be rubber gym tiles.

Crossfit and weightlifting exercises and deadlift training needs a strong rubber flooring if you don’t choose the correct floor type and thickness than you may break your base floor (generally those nice ceramics and wood floors are more expensive than the rubber floors). And also these rubber floors will help you to protect your expensive gym equipment.

If you want a floor for both types of exercises than you may plan 2 different areas with 2 different floors or to make it easy you can choose the thicker product, this means if you have a floor suitable for Crossfit the same floor is also suitable for functional training.

STEP 2

The maximum weights in the gym. Now you have to indicate the maximum weights that you re going to have in the gym, if this will be for free weight training than generally the maximum weights of the dumbells will be 40 kgs.

If you are going to have Crossfit training than the average weights will be (bars included 120- 140 kgs)

Most of the gym flooring products are indicated with Maximum Weight Drop value or Critical Fall Height, you can choose the correct thickness by the maximum weight drop value. ( Maximum weight drop value is the safe floor thickness to drop down the weights )

Thick Gym Flooring or High-Density Gym Flooring

When you choose the thickness of the floor you need then you have to check the density of the floor. All the rubber floors are not the same. Higher thicknesses will have better protection but if the floors have the same density. When you have to compare 2 products in the same thickness try to choose the one with higher density. Lower density rubber flooring products like playground flooring tiles are softer and may break very easily if you drop down heavyweights.

The post How to Choose the Gym Rubber Mats Thickness appeared first on FlooringFitness.

This tolerance is much bigger in the rubber flooring mats when you compare with other solid materials like steel or wood because of rubbers elastic form.

There is no way to avoid these tolerances on dimensions just you can hide it from the human eye.

Recycled rubber floor mats have a maximum 0,8% tolerance on dimensions, so if you have 1 mt X 1 mt tiles this means 1000 mm X 1000 mm. 0,8% tolerance makes an 8 mm difference in 1000 mm. So if you buy a rubber mat in 1 mt X 1 mt it may have an 8mm difference on mats.

With these mats, if you are going to make a home gym (let’s say 4×5 meters room ) from the beginning of 5 meters side to the end you may have 5 x 8mm = 40mm = 4cm difference. This tolerance (0,8 % ) is the maximum tolerance in the rubber flooring market accepted by producers.

Some European producers offer up to 0,3 – 0,4 % tolerances on dimensions.

Rubber Floor Tiles Application Tips

If your floor has too many differences on dimensions than you can try to apply tiles Asymmetric way, in this way you will hide the gaps from human eyes.

But this application way has a disadvantage, your gym will look a little smaller than usual.
